Frequently asked questions

What is linen?

Linen is a natural plant fibre extracted from the stalks of the common flax plant. It is one of the oldest known textile fabrics, valued for its durability, breathability and ecological properties. Linen is characterised by its natural texture, which becomes softer over time while remaining durable.

What can be sewn from linen?

Linen is versatile and works well in everyday garments such as dresses, shirts, trousers and jackets, providing comfort even on hot days. It is also a popular fabric for bedding and home textiles - linen curtains, tablecloths or napkins add elegance and natural character to interiors. Thanks to its durability, linen is also sometimes used for bags, backpacks and accessories.

Does linen crease and shrink?

Linen has a natural tendency to crease, which is part of its distinctive charm and emphasises its naturalness. The fabric can also shrink slightly when first washed, so it is recommended to wash in cool water or to pre-decatise the fabric before sewing. To avoid excessive creasing, linen can be ironed damp or dried flat.

Why is linen considered an eco-friendly fabric?

Linen is one of the most eco-friendly fabrics, as its growing requires much less water than cotton and the plant does not need a lot of pesticides or chemical fertilisers. Furthermore, linen is completely biodegradable and can be composted, making its impact on the environment minimal. Thanks to its durability, linen clothes last for years, which further supports the idea of sustainable fashion.
